\nI returned to Nigeria from the UK post-Commonwealth event (I totally enjoyed) & fell ill. As a responsible person, I self-isolated.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\nBefore returning, I had planned several interviews, I was scheduled to start a fantastic consultancy job & was also expecting to sign a contract worth millions.<\/div>\n
\nI lost them all!!! <\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\n
\nI had to self-isolate and also inform people I came in close contact with to get tested. COVID19<\/div>\n
\nMy friend & I kept calling NCDCgov to get tested? What if we didn\u2019t persist?<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\n
\nNo info on my test result. At 12am, an ambulance was at my house. I woke from sleep & was crying. I got to isolation center, but no one was there to receive me. I waited in the ambulance for TWO HOURS.<\/div>\n
\nThe nurses eventually came out & treated me like a plague. I sat in the ambulance feeling rejected.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\nNo questions about how I felt. So many questions about my travel history. Same information I had provided to NCDC & Lagos State Government during profiling.<\/div>\n
\nLack of data sharing!<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\n
\nAfter two hours, I was taken to my space.<\/div>\n
\nI felt lonely, bored & disconnected from the outside world.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
\n\"‘<\/a><\/a><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n
\nFew days after, another patient came in. We bonded. Days later, patients trooped in.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\n
\n\u201cAre people observing self-isolation & social distancing?\u201d I was so scared for Nigeria.<\/div>\n
\nI was on drugs daily. Sometimes, I\u2018d take 8 tablets in the morning, 13 tablets in the afternoon, 10 at night. My system threw everything out!<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\nFood, soap & all disgusted me. But I\u2019d look at the wall & force myself to stay hydrated \u2014 drank ORS. I FOUGHT TO LIVE! I FOUGHT!! <\/div>\n
\nLife finds ways of throwing LEMON at me. I\u2019ve struggled w\/ coming forward, but I want to inspire hope.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\nSome stigmatised me based on a PUNCH article with subtle messages like \u201cwhy did she come back to Nigeria?\u201d\ud83d\ude02<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\nNigeria is my home. \ud83e\udd37\ud83c\udffd\u200d\u2640\ufe0f<\/div>\n
\nCoronavirus is NOT a death sentence. People can survive and I HAVE! <\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\nDays after, the Doctors shared a goodnews that I tested negative. I shared this news w\/ family & friends! My blood sample was taken & I also tried to donate my plasmapheresis to help others. I hoped to be discharged.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\u201c…You\u2019ll stay a few more days. You know we take nose, mouth & sputum samples.\u201d <\/div>\n
\n\u201cAm I still positive \ud83d\ude33?\u201d I asked.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cNo, you\u2019re negative,\u201d the Doctor replied.<\/div>\n
\nThe Doctor apologised for the delay. I was anxious to go home but remained calm.<\/div>\n
\nI wanted to be free from this pain.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\nI continued the medication and asked to be in a separate ward. Sadly, I remained in the same ward as all others rooms were full.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\n
\nMy ward had people who were positive. What if I get re-infected?<\/div>\n
\nFor them, I was a beacon of hope & they needed me gone to register the progress.<\/div>\n
\nMy family & friends were becoming anxious.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

\n
\nPeople in my ward who earlier celebrated the news of my result suddenly lost hope.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cWhy are you still here?\u201d<\/div>\n
\n\u201cYou shouldn\u2019t be here with us. You should be separated from us now…\u201d<\/div>\n
\nPeople in my ward muttered.<\/div>\n
\nI tried to calm them.<\/div>\n
\nI waited to be discharged, but for two days, nothing happened. <\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
